Volunteers / Interns

WGNRR has offices in Manila, Philippines and Amsterdam, the Netherlands. We have volunteering opportunities from time to time for those who are interested in working with us.

To support youth activists and to encourage an exchange of knowledge, WGNRR runs an internship programme at the Manila office. We bring members and allies with suitable experience to the office, where they function as Programme Associates, working as part of the WGNRR team.

You may contact our Programme Associates  and Interns with any WGNRR related queries.

Leah Staples is excited to join the WGNRR team as an intern.  She comes from unceded Lekwungan Territory of the Coast Salish and Straight Salish Peoples on Turtle Island (Victoria, British Columbia, Canada).  Leah is a passionate reproductive justice advocate and uses anti-racist/anti oppressive feminist frameworks in her work and daily life.

Leah has a BA in Sociology and a BA in Women’s Studies from the University of Victoria. During her time at UVic she was active in the student union where she worked with allies in promoting women’s reproductive rights on campus.  This included working with community members both on and off campus to host Loretta Ross from Sistersong to speak at UVic on reproductive justice.

Leah just finished a six-month internship at Isis International here in Manila, and is excited to learn from the staff and members of WGNRR.  She brings her enthusiasm, ideas, and experiences as a reproductive justice activist to the WGNRR team.

Dr. Emilomo 'Emi' Ogbe, Programme Associate, Nigeria

Emi has a background in medicine and surgery. Prior to joining WGNRR, she worked with several grassroots organisations in her country on issues ranging from gender based violence to youth reproductive and sexual health. As a young person, she contributed to the draft of a framework for adolescent health with the Federal Ministry of Health and WHO in her country. Her experience as a medical student and then as a practicing doctor in Nigeria, helped her realise the urgent need for SRHR issues to be tackled at the grassroots level.

Her passion for women’s rights led her to do her dissertation in perception of gender roles and HIV vulnerability, research that was presented at a seminar at the World Health Organisation in Geneva. At WHO Geneva, she helped in developing a gender analysis framework for a training module to be used with WHO partners.

Fluent in English, she is currently working on improving her French. She plans to pursue a Master’s programme in Gender and Development later this year to help her improve her technical skills and knowledge of the gender dynamics in development.

You can contact Emi by e-mailing emi.wgnrr@gmail.com
