In commemoration of May 28, International Day of Action for Women’s Health, Women’s Global Network for Reproductive Rights is launching its Call for Action 2012: “Full Recognition of Young People’s Sexual and Reproductive Rights! Recognise Reproductive Rights! Mobilise for Reproductive Justice!”

Last week we received news of a tragic story from WGNRR member, the Cameroon Grassroots Global Network. They wrote to inform us that a 22 year old woman had been raped by a 47 year old man who threatened her with death if she told anyone. After three months, the woman saw a traditional doctor for an abortion. Like many countries throughout the globe, the illegality of abortion in Cameroon makes it very unsafe. In this instance the woman died. The rapist worked with the doctor to hire someone to brutally dismember her body and pass it off as pig.

Dear WGNRR Members , partners and allies,

WGNRR is excited to invite you to be part of a new international campaign for safe abortion, facilitated by a network/coalition, of organizations. There are many organizations working worldwide to improve women's access to safe abortion services – through advocacy, law and policy reform, capacity building, service delivery, training, information sharing and networking. WGNRR and the new campaign recognises the need to better link together and combine our efforts towards ensuring the right to safe abortion in all our countries.

The Women Human Rights Defenders International Coalition (WHRD IC) sent a letter to the Hungarian President Janos Ader expressing concern about Dr. Ágnes Geréb's impending imprisonment for two years and other criminal procedures against her and other midwifes.
